My windscreen has come unstuck!!

Post by Gayno » Sat May 05, 2012 2:55 pm

So I found the source of the water leak!

I can push the passenger side of the screen up by nearly an inch!!

Is it OK to have the screen removed and re-bonded back in, or do I need a whole new screen?

i would be very suprised if you could get the screen out without it breaking :o
when mine was changed the guy tried for a bet to cheese wire out with no cracking but it shattered into millions of bits ;)

Re-using the screen is no problem as a friend offered to swap mine who is in the trade but you would need a new seal as that is very hard to remove without damaging, as you'd expext its also quite expensive. as mercutio said prob worth doing on the insurace if you've got screen cover.

edit: was told by a few people re-using the screen is possible, reading Dbo's post not so sure now.

Confused had it fitted when he rebuilt the car, so we're talking over 5 years ago.

Local company has quoted £59 +VAT and just waiting to hear back from Autoglass via insurance.

As said its possible but their is a high chance of the glass breaking so use a company that will take responsibility for your glass or as said insurance if its insurance to make life easier make sure the glass has a crack in it wink

I have contemplated just throwing a stone at it and claiming it was kicked up by a car in front as I was driving, but don't know if that will cause isseus re. liability.

Also now I've enquired about it as it is, whether it will now look suspicious.

Autoglass have said they'll remove and refit, but if it cracks they don't cover it and a new screen is £619  .... a genuine one from Lings is only £380!!

yes they can be removed, i was offered an original gold tint one a couple of years back, mine is clear but was originaly fitted with the gold tint screen, the guy who owned it before me had a cracked screen and desided it would be cheaper to have a clear one fitted as honda wanted over £800, wish he hadnt  git  also seen some tint ones in breakers yards, £100 delivered wich is reasonable, but then you need someone to fit it.

Insurance should cover it regardless personally I would tap the loose area with something hard "whilst driving it cracked " hey presto new windscreen
