New 5th gen owner

Hi all

I recently signed up here and just purchased my first Lude after a long search. I have wanted one since I was in my early 20's and looking forward having a lot of fun with it.

It's in great condition, but want to to try and get it as mint as possible, no mods, as original as I can keep it.

First job will be to get under it in the next few weeks and get rid of any corrosion followed by a full Bilt Hamber seal.

Any advice on how to seal the arches from the inside welcome.

Everything works on it, including the4ws, and it was driven from Brighton to Lancashire yesterday in horrible weather with no problems at all.

1999, 88k on the clock, manual transmission, Motegi, mot until may, lots of history, belts done etc.

Absolutely buzzing to have one finally! I'm looking forward absorbing all the info from this group to keep it on the road for many years to come.

One thing I'd like to do is repaint the red top as most has come off. Any ideas where to get this done or pantone colour code?

Hi welcome a lude in the north West that's good to hear where are you? We have meets in the northwest so hope to see you at one of them, there's you tube that tell you how to do your rocker cover if you fancy doing it yourself my lude is the same colour they polish up well

Would be good to come to some meets and pick up some hints and tips.

Another job that needs doing is the discolouration of the headlights. Hoping to be able to sand/polish them back to clear.

I'm in st helens if your ever down this way I got a kit that do that job but some guys on here have used guys that come an do it for you for a price

Nice looking lude - I saw that one for sale for a while at £3240 then dissapeared last week or so!

if you plan to polish the headlights - id advise removing them from the car (this requires front bumper dropping/removal i believe). I did mine on the car, and despite taping up bumper and wing, i nicked the bumper and have never forgiven myself... If you use the 3m kit, follow the instructions regarding the lacquer/sealer - i didn't (on the wifes car thankfully at the time) and it really ballsed up the finish!

Yup, that was me buying it.
Many thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
I've got a lot to learn quickly about these cars, and enjoying reading up on everything. I'm kind of glad I bought it in winter as it give me time to get all the little jobs done before the weather improves.

Yup - make sure you plan enough time/resource into keeping on top of the jobs.

Besides general servicing and maintenance (1 or 2 spanners on the haynes 'out of 5' scale) , they generally don't want for much, and you'll get plenty of parts and advice on here also.
