Gear problems
What’s up people, I was recommended joining this forum for some help! I have a 5th gen motegi which had a little trouble going into 3rd the other night. It crunches a little then was fine and going through the gears there are no issues however it won’t go into reverse! It just doesn’t want to go at all, any suggestions?

I am sure someone will be along shortly with more mechanical knowledge than me, however, I thought the week spot on the Prelude gearboxes was 5th, are you getting any crunching in 5th at high revs? The old reverse not engaging means a knackered synchro on the Accord Type R but I don't think it is the same box in the Prelude?
The other thing it could be is your clutch of course.
Good luck in getting it sorted.

Manual or auto?
The manual gearboxes arnt the weak point typically it's the selector slowly fatiguing over time causing it difficulty to get the selector for 5th and reverse which in turn wears the selectors and gears out.
Auto box failure is common.
The only real was to go about it is to first drain the fluid and use fresh Honda fluid and got for a drive.
If that fails it's 2nd hand gearbox time (cheaper) or rebuild the gearbox.

First thing to do is simply to try bleeding the clutch.
Slave and master cylinders are known to leak/break, and will lead to progressively harder gear changes as the fluid leaks out and air
1 bottle of brake fluid
8mm spanner

You should be able to bleed the clutch without much bother (can probably you tube it). If its still bad after that, the next task is probably change the gearbox oil , but thats a bit of a faff, and at least 20quid in fluid....

Yeah I would change the gearbox fluid. I borked my 5th gear synchro and had to get them all replaced.

Hi all, yes it’s a manual. I have had a few people tell me to check slave and to bleed clutch etc so will get doing that at the weekend as well as changing the gear box oil. Thanks!!

It doesn't help you.
I had the same issue after missing 3rd gear. I killed reverse gear clutch. Good luck with repairing, you need to open the gearbox.

Swapping the gearbox oil with Redline MTF will resolve the issue if it's in its early stages.
