4th Gen 4WS Code 62 fault - new 4ws electric motor required
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone out here has a spare 4ws electric motor for a 4th Gen 2.2Vtec Prelude.
I keep getting a 4WS fault and having followed the manual, it looks like the ECU is good and so it looks to be a fault with the motor.
Thanks

Worth resetting first - I never looked up the code on my old 5th gen, a reset always sorted it (until the next time I stalled whilst on full lock - battery probably a bit flat/not assisted by alternator etc).

Hi guys, thanks for the advice to reset the system. I haven't tried doing a reset recently so I'll give that a go.
The 4ws fault has been an intermittent issue for the past few months but has steadily got worse to the point that it faults out every time I start the car. My mechanic followed the diagnostics in the Honda manual and the ECU has checked out ok and the circuitry from the ECU to the motor is also ok. But he said the resistance readings from the motor seem very high and the manual states it should be replaced, hence his advice is to try and source a replacement motor!
He's managed to source a few 4ws systems on eBay but they are abroad and the postage is massive, plus there's no guarantee the systems will work! Hence I was trying to find out if anyone here had access to a replacement motor I could buy.
I'll try and reset the system and see it cures the fault and get back to you.

Well i tried the reset and whilst the reset was confirmed with a double blink of the 4WS light, the fault remains.
I used the method of turning the steering wheel 45-65 degrees to the right and back again to do the reset - is that the way you guys recommend?

4th gen? Just disconnect the battery for 10 seconds to reset, or remove and refit the 4WS fuse.

Yeah its a 4th Gen, i used the following procedure:
If you wish to Reset the 4WS follow these steps.
1. Apply the hand brake.
2. Short the service connector pins with a paper clip or something similar.(Basically put the Paper clip in the connector).
3. Turn the steering wheel to CLOCKWISE (right) 45-65 degrees and hold it that way.
4. Turn the ignition switch to II (on) position but DON'T start your engine. You'll see that all your warning lights will go on and off, don't pay attention to them.
5. After your 4WS light goes OFF, turn the steering wheel to CENTRE (turn it left) position within 4 seconds and hold it still.
6. When your 4WS light turns ON, turn your steering wheel CLOCKWISE again to 45-60 degrees and hold still (again within 4 seconds).
7. When the 4WS light goes OFF, turn the wheel to the centre position again within 4 seconds and hold it still.
8. If your 4WS light blinks TWICE then you succeeded.
I didn't know you could just pull the 4ws fuse to reset it, i'll try it now

I think that procedure is for 5th gens.
The 4th gen manual simply requests that the steering is turned lock to lock with the engine on if the battery or fuse has been removed. (page 17-144).
Before replacing the rear rack, it is worth cleaning and checking all the electrical connections.

Still got the same fault.
I agree and we have looked at all the electrical connections but everything seems to be pointing to a fault with the electric motor on the rear rack.
Its run 25 years without any major issues so it has done pretty well i suppose!

Ah shame, I'd say your unlucky, faults in the rear rack are really rare.
I'm sure one will come along soon.
