Radiator and CarPC screen fitted!

Post by JayJay » Sun Jan 16, 2011 4:58 pm

Fitted the radiator and the screen today! Woop. Filled the radiator up and fitted the Spoon cap. Heats up nicely and the hoses stiffen up with the pressure, they didn't with the previous radiator/cap.

No cap as I was running the engine at the time to see if there was any air in the system. I fitted the cap when none appeared :) And the fans fit perfectly! On the previous radiator (the other type of radiator for the 4th gen, must be for UKDMs?) I had to make some brackets up. The fans haven't come on yet though, even when the aircon was turned on the one fan didnt start, so somethings amiss... Need to get them tested then work backwards to find out why :( Or maybe I didn't run it for long enough...

And the new screen. I'm still deciding what to do with the cigarette lighter hole, whether I re-wire the screen power supply and the pc ignition switch (connected to the pc power supply) and refit the cigarette lighter, or put something else there, like a USB port.

I need to take these pics when its lighter outside  The screen could be slightly further into the console, but that means hacking it up to remove some bits on the side and I dont want hack another one up! Definately looks more OEM in person 8-)

So, still to do:

- Re-wire amp/pc wiring down center of car
- Fit heated seat elements
- Replace oil
- Fit exhaust manifold heat wrap
- Replace passenger side driveshaft (lots of play on inner joint )
- Replace passenger side front lower control arm bush at the subframe (ordered)
- Get new mats (Indigolemon No, thats not the colour )
- Re-wire VTEC lights (disconnected at the moment)
- Fit the cooling plate 8-)

I didnt do the heat wrap as I forgot to buy metal clips  So thats another job, may have to remove the downpipe from the car then, or try and remove the aircon fan and see how much space there is then.

Stuff to do

Post by JayJay » Thu Jan 20, 2011 6:49 pm

My nice Spoon radiator cap doesn't seem to seal properly with the new radiator :( Theres always a little bit of coolant around the filler neck, I fitted the cap that came with the radiator before leaving work and when I got home there was no new coolant, so what a waste of money!

Updated list of things to (whilst thinking of what needs doing before Japshow). Beware, its a biggie!:

Parts needed:
01. Distributor cap and rotor - BOUGHT
02. Fuel filter - BOUGHT
03. Oils - Transmission, brake and PSF - NEED BRAKE AND PSF
04. Intake gaskets and EGR gasket - BOUGHT
05. Metal cable ties - BOUGHT
06. Tailpipe covers - BOUGHT
07. Sound proofing
08. Oil catch tank. - BOUGHT
09. Lots of carb spray - BOUGHT
10. Exhaust paste - BOUGHT
11. HID projectors - BOUGHT
12. Wheel spacers
13. Intake manifold to head gasket
14. Rocker cover seal

Not much to BUY to get the work done thankfully!

Many of those things are urgent, a lot arent. Some are little things I've been meaning to do for a while that I need to get around to. Like the catch tank, after seeing the amount of oil in the PCV valve and its hose, I dont want all that going into the intake chamber! And I think the whistling is a bust gasket in the intake manifold/chamber so thats another job. Good thing as I want to clean the chamber and throttle anyway :D

Alot of it is also general maintenance as per the workshop manual, things that should be done every 1-2 years but haven't been done since I've owned her (over 3 years ago).

Hopefully once I have the parts its a few weekends worth of work. My dads back soon so I'll hopefully have a helping hand for a lot of it and get it done quicker.

(updating this list so I can keep track of it myself :))

Cooling plate fitted and ballasts relocated yay :D Also fitted chrome tailpipes to hide the horrible bare metal ones :)

Pictures to follow because I left the Blackberry cable at work

And I forgot to stop by the motorfactors when I was in town

Also, it is possible to remove the nostrils without removing the bumper :)
