5g 2.2 vti auto oil consumption
Afternoon,
Quick one, there’s a ‘98 5g that I’m interested in. 2.2 vti auto but one of the things the guy has mentioned is that he’s put in 5l of oil this year. Looking at it that’s like 5k miles he’s done. That seems an absolute insane amount of oil? Il tempted to leave well alone. What’s a normal consumption? I don’t remember my old 4th gen using any oil.
Cheers,
Frank.

The user manual states that up to 1l per 1000m is acceptable usage.
I find that mine drinks it, despite nearly all of the leaks fixed! At this age, most oil seals are starting to let go , so id be surprised if it was actually burning that much oil - its probably leaking over half of that...

Yea 5l does seem excessive. Must smoke like hell if it’s not leaking it.

Its OK, the 10th gen honda civic reverse the trend, the oil actually tops itself up with petrol, so overall the household fleet has a net 0 oil consumption

Lo
I have never had to top up My auto box oil.
That's in 12 years.
Just changed it regularly to keep it nice and cherry red
Cheers

I hope the seller is talking about engine oil.
auto gearbox oil consumption will only ever be a leak. If they've put 5l of gearbox oil in then id walk away from that example lol.

It's the engine oil on an automatic car that Frank's referring to.
1litre in 1000 miles if it's all in vtec is probably acceptable. That much loss with normal driving patterns, not so much.
I'd look for another......
