Post by lewd lude lover » Wed May 16, 2012 3:59 pm

Hey guys. so im looking for another set of tyres for wet/normal driving.

i have a set of 17 x 7. would the best size be 205 50 17?

i want a decent tyre wall rather than a rubberband

I would have thought that would be perfect. 215/45 or 205/50 or 225/45

I've got 215/45/17, raised my car slightly compared to the 205/55/15s I had on the OEM sawblades.

225/45 would be massive wouldn't it?, I wouldn't recommend any larger than 215/45 on 17s if you're lowered. Not sure how the 205/50 compares. My wheels do rub sometimes (more when going through a dip in the road at speed while turning, but still ).

195/50 > 97.50mm tyre wall
205/45 > 92.50mm tyre wall
205/50 > 102.50mm tyre wall
215/45 > 96.75mm tyre wall
225/45 > 101.25mm tyre wall

OEM wall height is 112.50mm if they're 205/55's but obviously on a smaller wheel

I use this site to compare the size differences. Btw I run 215/40/17 which is a bit smaller than oem 15's

LO

I also run 215/45 17's

I also use very cheap tyres , i got them with my alloys nearly 4 years ago and they are still fine

Under £50 a corner the last time i checked

Cheers ;)

@ash: too low for performance imho. car will skate if pushed (which it is all the time  ) ill have a gander at the site. cheers ;)

@toadster:cant use cheap rubber. falling off the roads a bugger :( or atleast its got to be good cheap rubber.

@rob: are 215 45 17 not correct for J7.5? this is what i have on my J7.5's but im looking for no bulge or stretch...

@a1ex: im after the best compromise for going up a size on wheels but not going too low on the profile. I like a 'natural' look.

more food for thought. cheers guys :D

i think im going to have to look at a set of partworns for the time being as the cash fund has just been emptied by volvo insurance and tax in the same week

fair enough, I like 205/45's. My speedo was right and the profile wasn't too harsh either.
