Lower Ball Joint Separation

Post by jjmartin349571 » Sun May 20, 2012 4:12 pm

Hi guys,

Currently removing the hubs from my Accord so I can pull the drive shafts, however I can't for the life of me remove the lower ball joint  I got the tie rod end off using a separator and a mallet, but the lower ball joint just won't come apart. Is there a technique or something? Or do I need to just man up

Cheers,
Josh

Just one of those forks that you whack with a mallet, nothing fancy  doesn't budge no matter how hard you hit it though, I'm wondering if the stud is wider than the fork :? The tie rod end wasn't though and I'd have thought they'd be the same size :|

I think I used all my man upping on the hub nuts btw, lever bar ftw :P I don't need no impact driver

Is that like a scissor style one? I could've got one earlier but didn't fancy paying £25 for a tool I'd probably use only 4 times today then chuck in the garage. Maybe I shouldn't have cheaped out

yeah thats the one you have to undo the nut but leave it on just so you dont damage the end of the thread then wind it on until its really tight and pushing it through then just give it a whack if it doesnt push through a lot easier and quieter than those fork ones

does the accord wishbone have two opposing tabs either side if where the ball joints go? if so get 2 big equally sized hammers and hit them at the same time the ball joint should pop out after a few hits ;) (might be a few more than a few if the havent bee out for a while!)

hit the tabs as if you were hitting the faces of the hammers together but the wishbone was in the way!

Not sure if there is or not :? Never removed a hub before lol. It looks like this on the Accord (bit dark I'm afraid)

I did see that, but have no idea what he is doing lol. Did he just whack the hub on top with a hammer?
