Exhaust manifolds: Type S v Tanabe?

Post by macky_6 » Wed May 23, 2012 3:40 pm

Hey all,

As you know i have a Type S Prelude and it is running the OE exhaust manifold.

How does this compare to a Tanabe manifold?

I have a Tanabe manifold which i want to fit but is there much point?

My understanding of it is that the Type S manifold is slightly superior to VTI/SiR but the Tanabe is superior to Type S?

Anybody shed some light on this?

Cheers! :D

Yeah the general info out there says that the Type-S manifold is cylindrical and that where the downpipe meets the CAT should be 2.25" (all other 2.2 VTEC 5G's are 2.0"). What diameter is the Tanabe at the downpipe?

tanabe ones are rubbish, i'll take it off ur hands ;)

i thought the type s ones are a different shape to the rest of the ludes due to the atts gubbins, as LLL was struggling to get one!

the type S mani is not that much different to stock to be honest. if the tanabe is a 'performance' mani then you should gain with it.

remember that exhausts dont give you power. A good mani will just reduce the amount of power lost...

has the tanabe been retro fitted for the type S????? its not a straight swap, the downpipe needs mod.

With the ATTS the downpipe is longer to get past the ATTS unit.

Manifold is cylindrical for better airflow and longer collecter to clear atts and the cat back is bigger.
Solid fab FTW.

First of all, i don't have the downpipe section. I have only the header.

So i was going to get the downpipe custom made anyway, so this should fix the problem of clearing the ATTS.

Fancied the Tanabe anyway as a bit of bling 8-)

Do you think that i could sell on the S manifold to recoup some of the costs?

Also, i drove my old SiR today with it's Kakimoto blaring. God i miss that sound! I may now need to get that swapped over

I would find out if the Tanabe is the exact same size as the stock or they wont line up properly. Personally I think it might not be worth the hassle just for a tiny bit of bling.

Type S manifold looks to identical to standart (tubes size - do not know about lenght but may be a bit shorter) Jdm H22A egine, down pipe is a bit longer, and rest of the exhaust from down pipe to back box is 2,25 inch, I've mesured this 2 weeks ago
ludes are ment to be driven, not wanking around on a stand like a Civic.
