Does that mean your going to be taking your type s motor apart?
Yep if you can't fix it with a hammer its an electrical problem(page one of Pauls car repair manual) :)

When your taking off teh spare have a good look at how the adjuster works, perhaps take a pic of it as it can get confusing what way it goes on when trying to put it all back together ;)

right, battery fully charged, all connections and grounds i can find seem ok.

battery and cat light still on while engine running.

I tested the alt connector while the IG was turned on and i was getting volts through that so I think it had to be the ALT. gere we go then learning curve begins again.

well thats pretty emphatic.

Start the car, take the battery terminal off and the car dies :)

While the engine is running I put a meter across all of the ALT terminals and it reads no volts at all.

DEAD alternator.

The only problem you may have is that its a bit tricky to get the belt on the crank pulley. Space is a bit tight when ABS is in the way  Other than that if all the bolts come off it should be plain sailing.

Just a thought at the moment I have my Soarer swearing at me in Japanese and going bong bloody bong until I fire it up. It says Alternator not charging battery. I have tested it and it is giving 14.5v and the battery is OK
On the soarer forum there are two fuses for the alternator they recon. I just wonder if a Lude has something similar? My Garage is also very helpful they say drive it and if it fails they will come and lift it in. On a more sensible note they also said it could be a dodgy connection!

Resurrection

Mine have just come on but I have a new alt in. It's charging at 13.5v on idle. Never goes over 14 but never goes below 12.5.

Can anyone shed any light.

Recondition alt on the car works fine.
3 engine starts later the alt looses voltage when revved but idles at 14.2v fully loaded. But battery and cat light are on.
Put old non working alt back in and battery/cat light go out but its basically running off the battery since the alt puts out no charge.

Surely the lights should come on the other way round.

Even my mechanics are stumped.

Got another recon alt on it way in around 4 days time so we will see.
