on the topic then, what camber kit is worth buying?

As the others have said, get a wheel alignment first before buying a camber kit. If the car wasnt properly aligned after it was lowered the heel and toe will be out (maybe even caster as well?). Even the smallest change in ride height will affect the heel and toe, resulting in uneven wear.
