I did just that and also filled the new filter a little. I read somewhere it would help so thought why not as it would be filled up anyway.

I have one of those on my Golf, surprised all oil filters aren't 'spanner off' really, it's a very sensible idea! Plus the K&N branding is awesome, looks great under the bonnet 8-)
