DIY window tinting?
Right then
As said distilled water with a drop of washing up liquid
clean the inside and out side the window and get the inside as clean as possible make a.rough shape from the outside (make sure the film will be the right way round when applying from inside )
spray water on the inside and all around the plastic trim as you peel the film spray the. film as well you then.apply film squeegie the.water from under the.film work it in carefully trimming the film to size in the final stages you may need a heat gun to.help remove air however on a hot day this should not be needed . This is a rough how 2
Dont do Tue very back unless your super confident as that glue is an arse to clean
Go to a pro for the rear a pro will do it in ONE piece not two as we mould the tint to the outside of the glass so it fits perfectly an amature only pieces it together

i see window tinting everyday in next bay,its not easy job and if you want quality go to some reputable company.
every tint need be shrink or stretch before apply to window so every precut will never fit as perfect as cut on your existing window and you might finish with edges.
also careful with cheap window film as you might have next year purple or blue windows.
pay little more and get it done right

anyone see the police cam action thingy on tv, not long ago watched a copper pull somone for tinted side and rear quarter windows, he peeled some off so to ruin it therefore kinda forcing the guy to remove the rest as it looked awfull, the coppers reasoning was he should be able to see the occupants in the car, if he cant then he cant detect a crime. seems real strange this, wonder if he thinks people are commiting crimes in there homes as he cant see in there either, it is connected some way with the hoodie laws. personaly i have never met anyone who has had this kina hassle for tint. anyone on here had bother?

only front windscreen, driver and passenger window are illegal to tint if they are tinted from factory. law said: driver must have clear visibility from car day/night. if your window are standard clear you can tint them to %. rest of windows can be black as you want.littlefeller wrote:anyone see the police cam action thingy on tv, not long ago watched a copper pull somone for tinted side and rear quarter windows, he peeled some off so to ruin it therefore kinda forcing the guy to remove the rest as it looked awfull, the coppers reasoning was he should be able to see the occupants in the car, if he cant then he cant detect a crime. seems real strange this, wonder if he thinks people are commiting crimes in there homes as he cant see in there either, it is connected some way with the hoodie laws. personaly i have never met anyone who has had this kina hassle for tint. anyone on here had bother?

The rear glass on a lude can 'easily' be done in one piece (easy if you've done a bit of tinting already and can even be done without heat shrinking), I've done a few, there are pics on my facebook. I did a rear glass on a s14 200sx the other day, THAT was a pig of a job, but I still did it in one piece and I have an R32 Skyline to do this week.
Take your time, make sure the glass is clean, lay the tint on the outside of the window, cut it to size, peel off the clear side, cover the sticky side of the tint and the inside of the window in a warm water solution with a few drops of baby shampoo, put the tint on the window and squeegee out the water. The most difficult bit is getting the tint on the glass without it touching anything else and getting contaminated with dirt, dust or hair...
I tint rear screens for £65-80 depending on how curvy the glass is. If you've got tint kicking around it won't hurt to have a go at it especially as a pro tinter will have his own tint film and most probably won't want to use yours..
