Someone has done something you like, so you click the thumbs-up, and they get a little thing in their rep list showing you approved of a post they made - regardless of when they posted it, and without breaking the flow of a thread.
not really, correct me if im wrong but dont some people have more rep power than others and you can only rep so much in a space of time ?
so if i liked 4 posts you put up today i could't rep all of them because i have only got so much love to give lol .
i thought rep points were earnt for giving good advice or for achieving something that deserves to be noted and thats how i issue them.
i dont think somebody deserves reputation points for putting up a video of some knob falling off his bike even though it might be funny and i "like" it. but if somebody goes and fits a set of bike carbs or spends a week cleaning up his rusty suspension to look like new then thats when i would give them out.
i can live without a like button but i personally think its a totally different kettle of fish to rep points.

edit see its not just me

Fair enough then - I'll have a look into a 'Like' button for forums

I agree with Rich...I think a "Like' button as well as a Rep button is a good idea. More for the banter threads, as I read alot of the posts but dont dont post myself (not as witty as some of you lol) but would like to say I enjoyed reading the banter without having to +rep.

I still can't see a thumbs up button, gay or otherwise. :?
My browser is Chrome, which I've refreshed.
