new one with a few problems

Post by rich12885 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:11 pm

hello everyone just signed up.
im currently selling my autech pulsar. my aim was to go look at a few preludes while it was up for sale then buy once sold. but nothing ever goes to plan, their was a honda prelude 2.2vti advertised just round the corner from me on ebay so thought i would go have a look see how they drive etc.
well i got their car has a bit of rust on the rear arches and some on the front one but overall nice car.
had a little test drive of it and it ran like a dream even with 225000 on the clock.
so me being me i offered the lad silly money for it considering it has mot and tax till december i said i would give him 250quid for it ended up getting it for 300quid.

got it home had a little look around it and it has an oil leak from the rocker cover. fixed the bonnet catch just need to sort the wheels out.

heres the ebay link for it.

so problem time 4ws light is on. im handy enough have rebuilt engines gearboxes for many years so im hoping i should be able to sort this out.

also where can i get a steering wheel with cruise control on it from as mine is worn

Welcome along ;)

As for another wheel, there are a few cars breaking in the for sale section I believe, if not you can always post up a thread in the wanted section. As far as I know though, the actual cruise control switches aren't attached to the wheel, I think a member here has an aftermarket wheel and has just relocated the switches.

4WS fault codes are here, although I couldn't tell you how to get them up  http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/honda-p ... -t699.html

cheers guys.

will have a look now in the for sale section.

after cleaning the car up abit today looks like i have an oil leak not a serious one tho. so will have to get the car in the air tomo.
also its manual so i know these have problems with the 5th gear anyway of stopping this an what causes it.

last of all its a p reg 2.2 vti is that the 180bhp version then

the rocker cover is prone to it unfortunatly. or, if its coming from therear left it very well could be the cam bung seal. Its also a known weak spot.

The 5th gear crunch predominantly comes from harsh and aggressive engagement of reverse. You know when you go to put it in and it resists? if you just slam it home, rather than let the clutch out a little to slip it in, you can bend the selection fork. As this also carries 5th gear, but in the opposite direction, you end up with a slightly misaligned syncro. At high revs this will crunch the change. a good MTF will help it but if its gone it will only wear the syncro more over time.
6th gen Prelude please Mr Honda. RWD 2.4 turbo lude.

Welcome along mate :)

If you check the engine code on your car somebody should be able to tell you the power output. Is it a UK model or is it an import? If it's a UK model I think they were all 180 BHP except the very late 5th Gens fitted with the H22A8 engine. I'm more a 4th Gen person though so I could possibly be off the mark there
