CF exhaust :)

Post by A1ex » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:44 pm

I've done some snooping around and found this stuff on tinter web;

http://www.easycomposites.co.uk/Product ... 0-3mm.aspx

It comes in a 2" diameter pipe too. The 60.3mm stuff is only 500g / m :shock:

With a bit of vacuum forming work I can make up flanges to fit and I'm thinking of using Aluminium for the mandrel bends. Planning on using it for the centre section of the exhaust system, depending on gas temps after the cat :)

The temperature of the exhaust gasses are hot enough to heat the floor of my boot (stripped interior with no sound deadening), to the point where I said to my mate "wow thats hot". Thats around the backbox area.

IMO that CF pipe would have to be pretty good at resisting the heat of further up the system.

Fair point, They're making CF back boxes now so it's doable at that point.

I have the greddy system so the centre section is in 2 parts, I could just do the further back section and see how it performs before pushing further forwards through the system.

You can get high temp resin which can work in harsher environments, may do some further research on the temps.

could do a straight pipe if you could get an oval section to go under the subframe that way you get less heat build up in the bends

I've looked into the high temp resin and it can stick 180 Deg C with the regular stuff at around 110 Deg C.

I think the second half of the centre section would be fine but that wouldn't be much use for most people. Perhaps I could to the hotter areas further forward and on the bends in ali and switch to fibre in the cooler sections.

I like your thinking Merc ;)
