Re: Re: Jason's Black 5th Gen VTi - rusty wheel arches repai

Thanks for the comments guys. Now that the rust has been done, I am happy to make the rest look better so I have treated myself to a few goodies.

1. New rocker cover painted red in the post.
2. Going to get some paint and will refurb the wheels with a mate when the weather gets better.
3. I have my tilting number plate bracket to fit - but it means bumper off.
4. My fog lights got delivered today - took 5 days from US eBay! not bad at all. Here are pics.

I am unsure whether to use the switch supplied, or modify the loom and use a switch that will fit in the blank tab on my dash. I don't quite like the configuration of the new one.

Was thinking this switch. It is a bit pricey though lol.

Jason's Black 5th Gen VTi - new goodies fitted

Post by funkmasterjay » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:01 pm

Woo.
Lookie Lookie what postman Pat (or Nitin) dropped for me this morning.
Image

Anyway, my daughter is teething and we are all a little poorly so I just watched the Grant Prix, but there was a little sunlight and I thought sod it, let's install the USDM fog lights (or driving lamps). These are replicas and for those that love the sound of the words OEM or JDM, this might not be to your taste, but it completes the bumper. All I need now is lowering and a front lip.

Here are pics of the installation.

I found the external 'orange wire' in under 5 minutes. This is the feed for the OEM fog lights. The other end is hidden near the fuse box in the cabin. RESULT! It means I did not have to run a new wire through the bulkhead.
Image

I tool off the fog light blank, and installed the fog light. Sorry, I did not take pics of the wires. It's a no brainer really, they just tuck in a groove at the bottom of the bumper. When I take the bumper off in a few weeks, I will hide the wires better.

Also, the US kit comes with extra long wire, and 1 earth point for each lamp. I just cut the harness short, but also rewired the earth to one single neat point.

Testing straight to the battery. You can see my EH9 Civic with the door open to the left. Ignore the tacky looking rocker cover, there is a new one to be installed.

Image

Now that the lamps and external harness work, on to the inside. First task, to find the blasted orange wire. I will be honest, when it comes to finding unused Honda wires secured by blue tape, I don't hold my breath following my central locking experience.

I found it in 2 minutes flat.

UKDM switch panel that I have temporarily swapped for now until I find a fog light switch.
Image

Swapped the panel for the replica one. It's not a perfect fit so it is VERY temporary.

Image

Installed the relay and run the wire through. The plug for the fog light switch is the same for the Prelude so with a little modification of the wires, I can use an OEM switch.

All installed.

Thank you please.

Yes sure you can, but I have to get a fog light switch first. Can you wait a week or two?
