More N/A power
More N/A power
I'm thinking about letting some of the moths out of the wallet and getting some work done on the engine. Looking round the forum it looks like the ATR manifold + TB and cams is one way of going. I've been looking online particularly at the Skunk 2 products. The manifold+TB+cams and cam gears work out at about £1500, compared to the ATR set up is this worth it or is it all much of a muchness?
ECU mods will obviously need taken care of, PAW is over 400 miles away and looks too far to travel, so I was thinking Dastek? Anyone any experience of this type of ECU mod?
If you guys had say 2.5K to 3K all in what would you do get more power/torque? Let's hear your ideas!

IMO, for the S2 cams to give you any decent gains you'd need to increase the compression too, what block do you have at the mo? You'd probably need at least 11:1 to make the most of it.
Where are you based? It would probably be worth getting a hondata s300 socketed P28 ECUif you can find a decent tuner up by you as you should see good results from that.
My setup was ATR IM, TB & injectors, ATR head & cams, Mugen zorst, decat, evo 2 cat back tuned with an s300. That got me 228bhp & 174 lb/ft of torque, with a CAI (that I now have) it should be at or just over 230bhp at the type s box was causing a bit of a restriction.
If you can find the parts at a good price, cough 4thgenphil cough, you'd be doing well for that money

Also, Phil already has the s100 tuned for the whole setup so you'd be well away with that for £700. Another grand for it all installed, change the pistons to 10.6:1 (h22a in the 4g) while the head is off and you got 229bhp for a bargin. I certainly spent more than 2k on my setup

As said the 10:1 CR of the H22a5 will be a limiting factor.
See what Lude_Dude did with his a5, Crower cams + SK2 IM + tune = 40bhp increase.

Like Nitwit said H22a7 and a tune for upwards of 235 bhp?
Anything you get will probably make good use of a new exhaust.

S2 intake and TB are a waste of money IMHO. You're just paying for a brand. The intake is more or less an ATR copy, and top quality larger aftermarket TB's can be had for £50 ish.
I spent my monies on JUN cams, springs and retainers. Stick them in a good ATR engine, ideally with new piston rings, bearings, valve seals, etc. and you should get 250 - 270Bhp and a fairly stock low cam for reasonable emissions and idle.

The crower cams are to agressive for the 10:1 compression ratio. The ATR cams are slightly less agressive so work better with the lower comp block, my build gives a comparison for that.
Only trouble i'd see with droping an a7 lump in is you don't know the condition of the internals, whereas if you do a head swap you could get the pistons out, renew the rings & bearings while your at it and have a renewed motor.
