Before the oil gauge was added the oil pump broke and had to be replaced. And yes the light has been bypassed

i just get the feeling its your oil strainer

engine flush mate and re do your oil., its cheap option to find out and eliminate possibilities

I was thinking oil flush too. I'll pick up a new filter and some new oil from fast parts on the way home

I think it could be the gauge playing up. Turned the ignition on yesterday and the oil pressure was on 5psi before id fired the engine up :?

Any recommendations for a better gauge without breaking the bank?

yeah but if its reading 5psi before you even start the engine it might be a problem with the wiring
