new guy to the world of honda
Hi Everyone Im Baz , Ive been a Calibra owner Enthuisiast with a Car club for the last 9 years with owning a redtop 2.0 c20XE for 5 years
and my current 2.5 V6 (188.4 BHP on a Rolling Road) for last four years and its time to leave the nest and so im looking into buying my first honda.
I Live with my GF of 14 years with a Cat and 2 year old Puppy in a rural area and I work for a Computer Software Company of 10 years and Im 35.
Now for the last 6 mths I was looking at changing my car for a ITR DC2 but they are two much out of my price range for the next year so hopefully in the next 3 months i will own my first 5th Generation Prelude .
I was actually looking for a civic vtis mb6 (like the rover 400 shape ) as I had looked into everything of the vtis until i looked around and thought no im actually going to get a G5 2.2vti manual as the car would be more me.
The main differences from my current car would benefit in quite a few ways
*I would like to go back to working on 4 pot engine as to a 6 pot (but ive heard Hondas reliability factor has a great impact on this )
*im looking forward the luxury and handling as well as the vtec awesomeness
*And I would be most interested in coming along to car meets eg shows where there are more than one Japanese make & model of car
Im sure Im doing the right thing by changing my car choice to a Honda from a Vauxhall but it would be great if someone could let me know if there are any bad points for this generation

hello and welcome to LG
You are definitely making the right choice changing to Honda, especially a 5th gen Lude
I've been driving for 14 years and half of that time has been spent in preludes
There's plenty of info on here to help you choose the right lude for you, the more favourable 5th gen would be a manual JDM, or a 99 > UKDM lude as they have the more powerful 197bhp engines
pre 99 ludes and auto's have slightly less power.
things to look out for are rusty rear arches, rust around the bootlid, and 5th gear crunch. Auto gearboxes are prone to fail unless they have been maintained to a really high standard. Also dependant on which model you get, make sure all lights on the dashboard (4WS, ABS etc) illuminate when you turn the ignition on, and then go out
Enjoy your stay here bud

I've got a Prelude & Integra - whichever you choose you'll love it!
This is from a post I made the other day;
'Spoke to my neighbour's bro today.
He's been an AA patrol man for 8 years.
Excluding flat batteries & punctures, he's only had 2 Honda
call-outs in all that time!!
One was a stuck filler cap on a Civic, the other a worn dizzy arm
on an Accord. Hardly major issues.'

thanks guys , yeah i was looking for a vti in the rover look but decided i would be more happier with a gen 5 (the partner says they sort of look like drift cars from the rear and unique from front , ive done some resourcing and looked at other cars but nothing comes close and they are pretty cheap to get hold of .but they do seem rare around these parts and i will defo be going for a 2.2vti manual vtec and with yur help im sure i will find a good one.im just tired of vauxhall ownership now and i had a mate who worked for AA and he said they never had any callouts for any honda.

yeah unfortunately im only going to have around £1500 tops but ive been looking and most are 100+ but as long as cambelts and fsh then they are fine what i was told on the net.I have till end of sept to get one and the end of august i have my mot for the calibra so im hoping i can get that through without spending any great monies on it but if it does fail then i may be able to make some money on the stripping of it,but that depends on mot because i still cant sell it as yet because it gets me to work and back.
