ok cheers merlin , i guess i need all the help and advice i can get especially as ive never owned a honda before and for the last 9 years i know about the insides and outs of the calibra lol.
so i take it that the below models are the first manual vtec vti from around p reg to 2000 which ceased production around 2001-2002
UKDM 2.2 VTi 97-98 (BB8)
Utilises the H22a5 DOHC black top engine (compression 10:1) with the M2V5 5-speed transmission, capable of producing 183bhp & 151 lb/ft torque with a reported 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds, and top speed of 142 mph. The VTi has electronic 4 wheel steering, air conditioning, sunroof, and cruise control. The VTi uses a 5 stud wheel pattern in 5x114.3.
UKDM 2.2 Vti 99-00 (BB8)
Utilises the H22a8 DOHC red top engine (compression 11:1) with the M2P4 close ratio 5-speed transmission, capable of producing 197bhp & 156 lb/ft torque with a reported 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds, and top speed of 142 mph.

The UK 5G was only in production 97-00, I think JDM models were the same. The Yanks got it untill 2001.preludebaz1977 wrote:so i take it that the below models are the first manual vtec vti from around p reg to 2000 which ceased production around 2001-2002
IMO steer clear of the auto, unless you need an auto, as they commonly develop issues. Maybe its because they are not serviced properly, eitherway I wouln't buy one. Less power at the wheels anyway.

LO
I have a 2.0i Auto and have had no probs with it
Although it is low mileage , and i only ever use it in 4 gear drive mode.
I have tried out the tip mode a couple of times and it worked fine i'm more of a cruiser ( that means i'm old
)
I'm hoping that being a 2.0i it will put less strain on the auto box than a VTEC would
Good luck with finding what you want mate , not sure how many peops on here have auto VTEC Ludes
Cheers

plus i know that if i get a more mileage one im to check when cambelt was fitted and full service history , i liked one on autotrader in the blue colour with nice rims , it had 160k on it but all reciepts and service of all work and all it was going for was 1000 .its been sold now

hehe , so i take it mate you really dont like the lights , you have the pop up type which are funky and i do prefer the 4th gen sleek ones and if they made the lude with the 5th gen rear and the 4th gen lights it would be much better so i guess its just getting used to them , i guess the light output is better as the v6 has sleek lights (not quite as good looking as the 4th gen lude and with that setup you will not get any success unless you fit HID kit)

Re: new guy to the world of honda
The 5g feels a bit wider than the 4th, tricky to get through some gates around my town lol
Looking for a BB1, know of one for sale?

Ha that wasnt what you said to me at the weekend after a few pints of skittles vodka!honda-hardy wrote:hey bud, welcome.
hold out for the 2.2 vtec. if your going to buy a 5th you will need something to put the smile on your face when driving it, because when you get out of the car and walk to the front and see those headlights. sadness washes all over you.
