Goodridge braided brake line differences?

Post by nucleustylzlude » Thu Aug 16, 2012 9:44 am

Hey all,

Does anyone know how different the front and rear flexy lines are on the 4th gen. I have some Goodridge fronts and have seen another set of fronts only and wondered if I could use them on the rear. Probably something I could check quickly in the garage, but thought I'd ask while I think about it at work.

Or any good pics to see?

Cheers,

Rob

Isn't it only the length of them that is different?

That's what my head tells me, the flare nut end should be the same as all flare nuts are M10 on the lude apart from one on the ABS m/c. The Banjo end is the same too as far as I know. What about any midway mount points?

im sure you can reuse the oem mounts - think i reused the oem one on the fronts in addition to the one that came fitted to the hoses - seem to remember there were two mounts fitted on the hoses for the rear but again im pretty sure aslong as it has one on the hose and you reuse the oem ones you should be fine - thats providing the hoses fit length wise.

The fronts are longer, I think to allow for steering.
IIRC, I used the existing fixings. The banjo bolts are the same size front and rear, although they may be at different angles.

Thanks Puski, that's clear enough for me. With the D2 coilovers I don't have the strut mount anymore, so I guess it just comes down to the length. I wouldn't want more than is necessary, but it's got to be an improvement on the old 19 year old rubber hoses. Maybe drop a quick email to Goodridge to see if they can sell a set of the rears only and how much. If they don't and it's a full set I'll try these (from Jozef by the way). If they can do them, it'll come down to what price I guess.

Cheers guys.

On mine I just used the "mount" on the hose itself and cable tied it to the coils and out of the way, passed an MOT like it ;)

Yeah that’s what I’ve done too on the fronts. Figured the same on the rear. The D2’s do come with some universal brackets to mount the brake cables to so I might try and use these.

I’ll let you know what Goodridge say, just in case others need to replace fronts, backs or just one corner.
