I need a OBD reader for pre 2000 diesel cars. where from?

Post by lewd lude lover » Tue Aug 21, 2012 4:52 pm

hey guys, i have an ABS code come up on the volvo and the abs is juddering the brakes when i start off as a serious warning to get it sorted.

i have oppened the obd cover to stick a paperclip in but its a big connector. i have no idea where to start poking wires so i think i need a code reader.

i have looked but all the ones i can find for sale say they cover every car from 2001 onward.

i have a 1996 volvo V70 so i cant find a machine that will tell me the codes.

does anyone have any ideas or help they can lend? i need the car but i cant afford to take it to a garage right now just to find out the codes. if i have to buy one then i have it in the toolbox, thats different.

if anyone had one i could borrow i would shower them in man fat at their request. (or i would send it back with a yorkie bar as thanks if its wasn't nitin or ratty)

:)

You need to take it to a garage to get it plugged into a scanner of some sort. Shouldnt be to difficult .

I had something like that before for my Astra as it was a pain in the arse. That was OBD2 petrol but this is claiming OBD1 with various adaptors also, could be worth a look and may fit the lude too ;)

I gave the code reader I had away with the car (I knew the guy and he knew the car was a pain in the arse too) the one I had wouldn't have been much use for this anyways.

LLL - I have both the software and the cable you need, it's with Bri at the moment. Drop him a PM and see if he can find it - if he can, borrow away.

If you got a few quids and a 'droid device have a look at Torque, cheap app, bluetooth OBD reader and you're away. Pretty sure it'll read and clean both types of OBD. Worth a look ;)
