What do you think of LPG conversions? What are the pro's and con's? My wife is trying to persuade me to convert my 5th.

unless your doing 10's of thousands of miles a year the saving isn't big enough to cover the cost of the conversion.

richard ha has done it! the initial outlay is high and would probably be the same as the car is worth! doesnt look to hard to fit but if you were to get a pro fit the cost will be very high and will take a long time to recoup the 1k initial cost!

mixed bag for me. I did some research when I was looking into it, IIRC if you do 12k a year it'll pay for itself by the end of the 12months.

Apparently it doesn't run very efficiently when being pushed hard, and I think there are issues leaning out at higher revs. I remember reading about a scooby converted and he ended leaning out a killing his engine.

I was thinking of having the fueling switched on the vtec cross over, so lpg for pootling around and in vtec switches to petrol. Not sure iif the logistics of it would work tho, would need to ask a pro about it

went to jap auto extravaganza in a lpg 3.0 senator once in stamford hall ??? and couldn't get gas up there, cost me pennys to go and a fortune to get home. nice alex and more work for me :D

Hi i've got LPG fitted on mine, I find that from a full tank (40 Litres) I can achieve between 200-220 miles and its costs around £28-30 to fill it. Power wise you do loose some, i'd say around 20% but when on the motorway or just pootling around its great. I also find its easier to drive slow, I can cruise round in 3rd alot more in town, instead of having to change down as it burns more efficiently.
I've heard you shouldn't go into vtec whilst running LPG so I never do.
A few of the pros: My tax is cheaper or I think it is, I pay £121 for 6 months, it also means you can fit a de-cat and still go through the MOT due to the lower emissions.
The cons : Takes up room in the boot, although I've only lost the narrow section. You need to fit a filler somewhere which can be a little unsightly unless done well.
Something else to go wrong, although I must admit since I've owned mine I've never had a problem other than the occasional stall at junctions when I first started driving it.

I have LPG on my 4th and I love it. I couldn't afford to run the 'lude without it. I agree with everything Majemoss has said, except I don't get anywhere near a 20% power loss, in fact I'd say the difference on mine is negligible and altho I mainly use VTEC when running unleaded it works fine on LPG as well. Tax is cheap if you have an installation certificate and get the car registered as dual-fuel. LPG mileage is comparable to unleaded, but at half the cost per litre. Oh and yes, you can run a de-cat exhaust and still get thru your MOT emisisons :D The only downside I notice is that my already tiny boot got a whole lot smaller! I suppose another drawback is the initial outlay, but mine came converted already.

im having my 1991 3g done next week for 850.00 - they fitting it with a stargas system. am only getting 24mpg with the car just now so hoping that with the lpg my fuel running cost will drop by about 40% ish.

gonna have the tank in the spare wheel well so wont take up boot space.

am keeping this car as iv had it 9 years already and dont intend to get rid + when it does come round to time to change, the gas system can be removed and refitted to my next car.

cant wait - diesel running costs without the clatter!

will let ya know how it goes -)
