We'll soon just end up like America where we're all just running illegal mods anyways. We won't tell our insurers as they'd be illegal to have on there, so we'd all be driving with void insurance.
It won't happen, and if it does, I can see me going to prison for a long time with something like a trike made from a Yamaha and a Reliant.........

The flaw with these 'laws' is what constitutes a modification?
Does a different brand of tyres count, what about oil, spark plugs or I suppose even screen wash?
Then what happens about recalls? The manufacturer would be 'modifying' something on the car.
I can't see anything like this being passed, maybe something like in Australia where when a modification is made it has to be checked over and approved by a licensed mechanic.

Any law that goes too far is unenforceable. The onus will be on MoT testers to spot what's not supposed to be there. There are already changes that make it theoretically difficult for modifiers, but the guidelines are either vague or confusing. This one will run and run.

Man that sucks...well in here in PT is worst then that! They stipulate that even a strut bar is illegal and cops can send you to special inspection! They disregard normal inspection since you can have coil-over and everything if passes the testes, but on the road you can be pulled over for as simple as a lip!
They said if is not written on the car papers is not legal...
So even changing shocks to put Koni or some hawk or ebc pads is supposedly illegal...but i,m driving modified cars for the pas 5years in pt and never had problems...i don't know if law enforcement is greater in uk but it comes to make your mods a lot less eye catching!

I don't know why they'd be so keen to crack down on modified cars, I think it's probably to do with the stereotypes people have of us. On the whole though most of us here are in love with our car's and would be mortified if we ever crashed them.
I'd have thought it'd be more constructive cracking down on people who aren't interested in their cars, and so don't realise if something has made their car unroadworthy. Or even better, crack down on all the jobby drivers out there who are oblivious to their lack of ability - I see so many incompetent people on the road in their little Micras and what not but nobody bats an eyelid. I go out in my Mk2 Golf on the other hand, and if I pass somebody on a dual carriageway or try to get out a junction, everyone gives me evils like I'm some boy racer kebab
