Yeah, you should be able to setup access rights to any 'shares' you create.

Not at all man, given your free legendary insurance advice it's the least I can do.

Coming into this thread a little late having been away, but my 2p’s:
I have a WD portable USB powered 250GB, which has done me fine for backing up or storing media resources for my web stuff. But with a couple of laptops (don’t use the desktop any more) with their HDD’s nearly maxing out I needed to add something like you.
I bought the WD My Book Live 2TB and think it’s great. Just power and a LAN cable, sits next to my Virgin Home Hub and I can keep everything stored centrally and can access it on the go through their own Apps. I think it’s a great bit of kit for the money.
The Seagate one looks very similar though.

Bought the Seagate one. Looks good.
Currently backing up my pc, I think it will be doing it for the next day or two! Lol!
iPhone / iPad app works, looks like I drag and drop files at work through Seagates Internet site and I can network my printer via the USB.
There is a back up folder (backs up the c drive and other files you select), private folder for each user and then a shared folder accessible to each user on the network, or remotely via the Internet.
Looks good so far.
