Clutch problem, gear not fully engaging

Post by Tango Tiger » Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:51 pm

Hi all,

Last few days I've had an intermittant problem getting gears until the car has warmed. This morning it really didn't want to go into any gear. Foot flat to floor but not quite getting in gear.

Are the clutches/cables adjustable on 4th Gen's or am I looking at something more serious?

Thanks in advance.
Alison

Will do, thanks.

Just to mention, goes into gear fine when engine is off.

Nah I'm with Merc on this one.

Check for leaks at master and slave cylinders.

It could also be something as simple as low clutch fluid - just top up with brake fluid and you'll be away!

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be slave cylinder. It came on very quickly with mine tho, like fine and then 5 dips of the pedal later couldn't find a gear

Finally found where to check level, guess what.... empty.

Filled it up, huge improvement but not perfect. Hopefully it'll sort itself out now.

I just think the worst with everything now, we've been a bit unlucky with our cars lately!

Thanks for all your advice.
