no i have to disagree, starting price and reserve are totally different!nickyboy wrote:I appreciate you don't want to sell it for pennies, but "no reserve" means that, it starts at 1p and sells for whatever.
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

"No reserve" means no reserve! Where does it say "setting a reserve means you have to start at 1p" anywhere on ebay? I could have listed it a £350 and had my reserve set at £450 but what is the point of paying £10 listing fee PLUS £8 reserve price fee?
A starting price is a starting price, not a reserve price. A reserve is a price that is the lowest that bids will be accepted regardless of the starting price.
I have found the middle ground. If I advertise it on a classified, I'd set the price at £750. But I don't want to be trying to sell it forever, so I have to find a middle ground. No-one is buying cars at the moment, it's a buyers market and people are getting fantastic bargains at the moment. Either way I'm going to lose money on it, so I am trying to make the loss as small as possible.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on our views about selling on ebay!
At least Andypont agree's with me!

its a starting price, which happens to be the least the person will take for it
saves annoying people asking what the reserve is, and you only get serious people
down side is less interest in the vehicle

You could set a starting price at say £100, and then put a reserve on something for say £200, happens in normal auctions all the time. Therefore they are clearly not the same thing as the're different numbers.
Best of luck with the sale, looks like a nice example and I hope you get something close to what it's worth.
