210£ for the tax and what about insurance? thats £750. its not been the best year so the second car is not needed for winter and im happy to entertain the thought that it might stay there next summer..

i think i'll seriously look at the car bag! cheers for that.

its not £210 for 6 months on the lude and you should have it insured for the year anyhow, what if your storage facility burnt down or it got stolen? keep it there in the summer? and what about the shows? oh come on james you can't tuck it away after taking so long to get back on the road with it unless its for major upgrades. as for the bag i bet they're bloody expensive but they are supposed to be the dogs danglies.

i most certainly can

it was out in a yard for the first 19 months of my ownership and on blocks for the next 6. two or three years in a garage wont hurt it or me. it has to be off the road come first salt spreading regardless so end of this month just seems easy as i can get 6 months tax back.

fire etc? well i cant do much about that but jobby happens. The car bags are on ebay for around 250 ish. not a bad investment to be honest....

this project is finished, for now. maybe it will be a barn find in 20 years

i certainly wont sell it but I have other things to be getting on with. all being well and i make some more money over the winter she will be back on the road next spring with a new exhaust and a tune up but if not im not going to cry. Its an investment in time and hobby as much as money. storing toys aint a bad thing if the other option is sell.....

on another note..... how much would someone be looking at to get an SR20DET into an MX5? I saw your update the other day and got a little wet.

is this so called car bag for filling with inert gases? if so, be carefull as almost all plastic bags allow air to pass through on a molecular level, it needs to be like ruberised the same as modefied atmosphere packaging used on supermarket food. as its from ebay i would doubt it is any good for keeping oxygen out (i may be wrong as i havnt seen the listing).

i would have a looksee mate. it is a 12v powered system that keeps itself inflated and has a constant air flow.

I thought about this

car bag looks a nice option,

also I had dizzy die on me when my car was sat for painting

so look out for that

I decided to just drive the nuts off my lude, forget the chassis concentrate on the engine, I can always drop the engine into a better chassis.

no, ebay is full of cheap crap. i know, i used to sell it. alot of the junk on ebay doesnt even go through the seller (if its new). best thing ebay is for is second hand goods as was originaly intended but unfortunatly it has become swamped by folk who cant be fooked to work and just list cheap chineese rubish without even examining the goods themselves, you may think this is abit harsh, however i was one of these people, true i also worked but some of my items have apeared on rouge traders or one of those programs (maybe dom will knock at my door one day

) but i do know a fair few of the sellers (so called power sellers) and to them its just a buisness, which is only intrested in making as much for as little as possible without much or any thought for the buyer. these people (and they are the vast majority) buy from chineese trading companys and ship direct to you from the chineese trading company, the more they sell the cheaper the goods become for them to buy, some trading companys will even allow you to build up a sale total over a period of time and allow you to use the total amount you sell in order to qualify for the discounts, thus encuraging this kind of selling. this type of selling accounts for over 45% of ebay sales

we have all fallen for the cheaper option on ebay at some point or another.
this is in no way intended to descurage folk from ebay (there are loads of burgains to be had) especially second hand goods like car parts

if it wasnt for ebay, alot of our ludes would have been scrapped years ago

ok just had a looksee, to be honest i cant really see the benifit, the idea of using a bag was to remove the air inside and replace it with an inert gas (you could even use argon). water and oxygen cause prety much, if not all deteriation you can find in a car (exept for sun damage or bird crap) after all, if you have damp inside it wont matter as there is no oxygen for it to really cause any harm. maybe keeping the bag inflated does work, supose it keeps things out with nesting instincts

, i too had a bike in storage but it wasnt rats, mice or even cats, mine was worse - a flipin wasp nest

supose a inflated bag may be better than nothing, would keep it dry (assuming the air going in is dry

) you would prob be better vacuming it (ie suck as much air out as possible) if the inert gas idea turned out too expensive, but i would have thought just a half full bottle of argon would sufice, although it is easyer with a heavy gas like nitrogen, you just slowly fill from the bottom and the air is expelled through a valve in the top, thus replacing all the oxygen in the bag, you will need to leave the windows open and things like red cap, brake res and the like (anything that has air trapped inside that would eventually leak back into the modified atmosphere and ruining all you hard work

ummm maybe there is a market for this

back to ebay for me then

i think the main thing is that it gets a constant flow of slowly moving air. It's stagnation thats the catalyst for degeneration. you have all the requirements for it all the time (oxygen, moisture etc) but its only when you stop the air moving or leave it to the elements that you get real issues...

if i was designing this item i would probably detail the air inlets with a replacable (once a year maybe) pollen, charcoal and silica gel filter pad. this would remove near all moisture and most of the nasty bum droppings in the air before it got anywhere near the car. thats just off the top of my head though...
