^^^sorry but rubbish. you should be able to get a better than factory finish is the point!

Factory is standardised and homogonised. this is custom work, it should be better. the only reason paint comes out poor is because of shitty prep and or painting/polishing skills.
Paul seems to be suffering with all of the above :(

it also very much depends on how much you pay to be fair but still.....

for sure a factory finish is great for not actually being finished (polished up etc) and it is helped by electrostatic application but in no way should a fairly skilled painter knock out work that looks worse.

When I worked in the body shop, everything went out A1, and on the rare occasions that things went wrong, as they sometimes do, they were rectified immediately, no questions and no hassle for the customer. There are a lot of cowboy shops out there, but good ones do exist too.

The painter I worked with used to complain because the stock paint finish on newer cars was not really good enough (a slight pudding orange peel effect) and he had to adjust the finish sometimes to match the rest of the car so it would not show the rest of the car up.

I recall a Ferrari 355 that was side swiped, and after we were done with the o/s, the owner asked for the factory finished n/s to be done too as the better job we'd done really showed the car up.

It seems the problems Paul is having is due to lazy prep, and not the actual painting process itself.

I hope you car gets put right soon Paul.

Vtecmec, I agree it is lazy prep but should not the sprayer and owner of the business pick up on this.

BTW I have told them I am unhappy and want it sorted to my satisfaction. It goes in Tuesday week and I told them I will be peering up its arse this time. "No problem" was the reply, lets see shall we!

To be continued............

Its very easy to get a better than factory finish. I do this everyday, if were taking about flat lacquer etc then i can be arsed adjusting the gun to match the factory finish, i just spray, flatten till flat and polish.
IMO modern cars are far far superior in factory finish than years ago.

Most cars in the last 5 years are superb compared to 10years ago. You will always get OEM orange peel unless a machine wet sands and polishes every car adding up cost.

Don't want to sound :tosser: but IMO its easier to get a better than factory finish, ie flatter even from a gun finish. Its all in the prep given the correct materials and know how.

I hope your issues are easily solved and don't reappear.

IMO its all in the lacquer finish. Prep is a given no matter what. Only in the lacquer finish is the final product given.

That's my experience

I wasnt saying you cant get better than factory finish, I was maybe a bit flippant on that remark

what I ment was most monkey bodyshops wont give you better than factory finish, I honestly think I could do better if I leant how to spray properly and gave it my own time and attention

and also save myself a stack of money

dont worry about me I'm bit disgruntled from past experience

Well the Soarer was going to have the window and the paintwork fixed by today at the latest. 3 guesses where it is, yep still on my drive. Tuesday is the next deadline for the lude which is booked in to be sorted.
Wednesday morning if nothing happens its a seven day letter to fix them or its action in the small claims court.
I don't body lemonade about or expect people to take the body lemonade out of me!
I don't think the hire of a comfortable automatic car is to much to ask either seeing that I or my wife are unable to go shopping or to Hospital/Doctors appointments without a vehicle suitable for the purpose!

Definitely, yes there is technique, it is just practice and knowing the theory behind how and why it works. My boss says "if you can body lemonade, you can paint" obviously in time tho.
