Thanks HH. I was thinking the same thing about that lower arch.
Of course it's possible water just got between the skins and rotted through.
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

depending on how the auction goes i think i'll be having a bid, a bit of rot comes as standard with most hondas of a certain age be it 1st to 5th gen.
maybe i could learn to weld and sort it out myself

Out of all my ludes I never had a problem anywhere elseyou must be unlucky if all the problems you mention above have appeared on a 3g it does surprise me tbh.

OK went and had a look at it today and all i can say is
The rep at the dealer seemed ok, didn't know naff all about them but he did show me the service history and it has been incredibly well maintained by them. The engine sounds perfect, infact I would go so far as to say its sounds like new. The sunroof, and windscreen are ok for rust and the interior is in good order the boot floor has a little water in it probably from the sunroof drains but its an easy fix and there was no rust in there.
Ok now for the issues, the front nearside headlight does not line up but there is no sign of accident damage so probably got sat on at some point. The rear bumper does not line up and has been pushed in on the nearside ever so slightly, would take some fetling to put right but not a disaster. Now for the real disaster lower rear arches
I was expecting it to be bad, but it was really bad inner arches have gone and there is little holding the arches together, as with most 3g's its been repaired before so its been cut back in the past and over time rusted through with a much bigger hole. So a big welding bill will be on the cards but its not past it.
The arse has fallen out of the exhaust but the downpipe does not blow so not to bad, The wheels need a refurb and the tyres are old ok, not much left though its abit of a lemon but with some enthusiastic love can be made great again, I estimate it would cost about £1500-£1800 for a full respray and associated welding, The rest of it depending on how far you went with it could cost anywhere form £700 for MOT, Tyres, Exhaust, Tax and a wheel refurb to £thousands for a full on restoration.
Summary then: everthing is there and it is complete it has lots of history and is factory original but its going to take a hell of a lot to see it put back on the road again
