Buying a car privately
Buying a car privately
So I am going to be looking at a few cars for sale privately on pistonheads. Always bought from a garage so I know nothing about the ins and outs of buying a car this way. What should I be looking to do in terms of checks like HPI etc?
Cheers,
BMCC

Do a HPI check on the HPI website, don't bother with these cheaper car checks (such as my text check) as they don't provide ALL the history of the car. Only do a HPI check on you've test driven and checked the car out. Also do a VOSA MOT history check, as this will show if the mileage on the car is correct.
I've worked in the motor trade for years and know my stuff, do these 2 checks and it will prevent you from buying a dodgy car.

Buying privately use their bog ! Crooks use empty houses to sell dodgy cars from use the bog and you know it's theirs
Reason for selling is an important one and do the maths
Gut instinct if you get a bad vibe walk away
Never carry the cash 50 deposit will secure most cars saves you getting robbed of ££££

A bit of patience doesn't do any harm. The right car is rarely the first one you see. Unless you're in the market for something truly rare, there's always another one round the corner.
I once saw a car I liked that was at the right price. I didn't like the seller much. I walked away.
If you travel a long way to look at a car, you're more likely to be tempted to buy it!
