A good tip to find out private they are is to phone up and say your interested in their car and would like some details on it, don't specify the car and obviously if they have more than one they will ask which and shows them up as being a small trader.

I generally find traders buy auction car, trade ins and things they have fixed up. If you want a mint motor, my experience is to stay away from these wannabe traders. They tell you all sorts of stories and any faults you find are blamed on age and general faults but don't affect the mot which they often do but there quite convincing.

If you've seen it on eBay it's probably hiding something! It doesn't matter how many cars I think are mint and bargains on eBay only to find its a lemon, it seems the more people can write in the description the more lies they tell?

I hope non of that puts you off tho, I'd still never buy from a garage. Just keep looking for the ones that come across as genuine and more than likely not a total bargain. :-)
