thats a pity - pain in the arse when jobs arent finished off properly - think its is a bit tricky to get the surround sitting just right and like others have said its a windscreen out job to fix it. Id say that about 50% of ludes ive seen have badly fitted/refitted surrounds so you wont be alone.

i was (un)lucky in that my windscreen got cracked last year and was replaced by Autoglass (through my insurance) and they fitted a new surround kit at that time.

...my surround did not fit properly after the fitter's 1st attempt. It gradually came away, so I complained. They tried to fit a new surround with clips but no better. So an expert was summoned, and on this next attempt the screen was removed and repositioned so that the trim would fit correctly. Happy. 2 Days later the screen cracked - he had to do it all again with a new screen. :lol:

Its a pita to get someone who knows how to fit these properly.

My windscreen surround hasn't fitted right in a long time.

I do however need a new screen, so will make sure it's all done at the same time.

The bit of rubber around a 4G screen is £150! Autoglass showed me the part invoice when they fitted a new screen to my Lude.

Well The car should have gone in today to have the paintwork issues sorted as well. Where is the dancer? No where to be found! I am seriously pissed off now! If nothing happens today I will find someone else to fix the paintwork and screen and give him the bill. If he does not pay its the small claims court for him!

Is that the right way to go about it? If someone came to me and said "I want you to spray my car but I won't be paying, this guy that drokked it up before and has failed to maintain contact with me will be getting your bill instead." I think I'd be inclined to say no thanks :lol: I think Shiny's advice was pretty good ;)

Paul would have to pay for the new garage to do the corrective work and then try and claim the costs back from the original garage.

The first garage should be given a reasonable chance to rectify the work to a satisfactory level. Im not sure what "reasonable" is, this is why my recommendation would be to seek legal advice or contact CAB (although from past experience of dealing with CAB they haven't got a drokking clue half the time).

I arranged a fitter to remove and fit my windscreen

first time they got it all wrong, some of the rubber surround was pinched was totally off

even the bodyshop complained, got them to refit it, but later realised they still did not get it perfect

must be either prelude windscreens are difficult, or windscreen fitters are idiots

my rubber surround was £80 quid from honda, which they screwed up but they supplied a new one

It's a common problem for screen fitters to get right as Lude-dude says.

I booked and paid for the windscreen guy myself when it was at the bodyshop to remove all glass (bar the doors) and refit upon completion of the bodywork. It's the first time I saw my surround fitted properly as it had always had one part (where one of the clips are) rising up a little - I'm fairly sure that screen was original too.

Paul, it sounds like it's not just this guy who has had a problem with these, so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance to rectify it. If he is moaning about further cost to 're-do' the screen, then that is where you will have to argue the toss with him - it was him who paid for the fitter not you, so he should have looked the work over on completion and deemed it complete before paying the guy. The fact that his quality control on third party work has missed it is his fault, he should pay (if required) and learn a lesson. Although, I'm sure he could argue with the windscreen fitter about incorrect fitting and get it rectified for little or no cost.

Good luck bud. Much to rectify on the bodywork? I know it's hard to get bodywork 100% right in a customers eye. Everyone has the right to take it back if they're not 100%, but you need to give the bodyshop reasonable time to rectify it. As Shiny says it's the 'reasonable' part of the equation that is a little wooly. Return work is part and parcel of bodywork as there is a lot of paint and panels to a car to scrutinise, and no one will be more picky than the owner, especially enthusiasts such as ourselves.
