Hi thanks for any advice, basicly my engine has been throwing out oil in a major way went to garage the balance shaft seal has gone.oil has been chucked over cambelt etc etc now the garage have recommended a new cambelt kit aswell as the seal replacement and a water pump,

Now iv been toying with getting the cambelt done anyway as I've done 40,000 odd miles an never had it done as for the previous owner at the time of sale made no mention of having it done, it's now covered in oil to so garage have recommended replacement which makes sense.they also say as the engine is in bits at the mo maybe I should have water pump done at same time total cost £650. OUCH.

The question is do I get the above replaced or leave the water pump which gets me down to £550 or leave both cambelt and waterpump an just get seal replaced or break the car? It's done 110,000 miles so at a dangerous stage in life I'm really not sure.i have the cash but not keen on spending it.

It's a gorgeous white bb4

HELP !!!

Deffo do the works. Once that lot is out of way your engine will be good for another 110k. Get the retainer for the balanced shaft seal fitted too.

i was in a similar position as you bud after my crank pulley came loose - i chose to bite the bullet and get new belts, seals and water pump - i also removed the autotensioner and fitted a H23 manual tensioner. it costs me about £200 odd for parts and as i couldnt afford for a garage to do the work i was forced to do the work myself. well i got a lot of help from a few local luders - even then it was a struggle and it took a few weeks to do the job. If you can get someone local to help you out then you could do the same. there is plenty of info and advice from folk on this forum.
i felt like giving up a few times but glad i did it myself and learned a lot in the process - its a real confidence builder once you tackled a job like this.

If you want to keep the car, then do it. I think I'm gonna have to do likewise next year.

If not, out it cheap & move on.

When my balance shaft seal went it went big time. I only reversed out of a car park space to see the oil slick. I shut the engine off. I had it towed to Honda and had the lot changed for £350ish quid. But, the engine was never the same afterward - vtec engagement was intermittent at best, oil light flickering at low speed. LOW OIL PRESSURE.

So before spending £££ make sure the oil seal was only leaking and not out, otherwise you might have a damaged motor due to oil loss. I hope its ok for you.
