Problem fitting lightweight pulley to alternator

Post by vanzep » Mon Nov 12, 2012 5:28 pm

Got my unorthodox lightweight pulley kit from Dino
Bought a new alternator so i could fit it onto the spare and then plan was to swap the whole unit into the lude on the next dry sunny day.... :)
Problem is i cannot get the nut holding the pulley on to budge - had it in a vice and used breaker bar = wouldnt budge :?
now im not sure which way i should be loosening it...but trying either way didnt seem to want to go at all - and i dont want to strip the threads so thought id check and see if anyone new which way and how to do this?
Thanks

New pulley

did you manage to hold the pulley tight enough in the vice to stop it moving while you man wrestled with the nut?

It was put up in a vice as tight as i dare do it - you can see some of the pulley has crumbled.....

Yup it's left hand thread, take it to a garage and use their impact gun! It's unbelievable how easy they make it look. You don't want to be putting the new pulley in the vice really do you.
