Just had a check on crossings to France.

If we were to book now for the first weekend of July 2013, it's as follows:

Return trip on the tunnel: £90
Return trip on P&O Ferry: £100
Return trip on DFDS Ferry: £70

This is leaving on a Thursday and returning the following Monday. All speculative for now, just getting some numbers together.

Current estimating costs:

Return trip on ferry/tunnel - £100
Fuel - £150 (600 mile return trip between Calais and Nurburgring, using 25MPG and £1.35/litre) doesn't include fuel cost of going round the 'Ring or getting from your house to Dover. If we cruise the motorways, which I'd suggest is probably a good idea, no reason we shouldn't see 30+ MPG.
Europe required items - £50 if you don't already have them (now require breathalyzer for France of which we spend about half an hour in!)

Have you considered Harwich -> Hoek van Holland?

Maybe better situated for the Midlands/weird Northern people.
~100miles less driving on the continent = more petrol for track.
No France.
The Netherlands ffs. Smoke and a pancake.

Stena Line, based one car one person, same dates: £118 return.

Yes, might be a better route.

It is a bit long  nearly 8 hrs there, 5 back. Just an idea, I know I'd rather a bit longer on the ferry than negotiating France and Belgium. Plus more autobahn.

Yes, over 6 hours travel and more expensive, I'd say most would opt for the Dover ferry.

I drove to Germany in 2010. Had no problems in France or Belgium, but did stick to motorways which I think we would do so really can't see a problem.
