Daily Driver/Run around suggestions...

Post by Roystan » Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:47 am

Anyone got any suggestions for a run around car for myself?

Was looking at a 1.0L Suzuki Wagon.

I need it to be the following...

Cheap on Insurance
Small Engine
50+ MPG

My lude will be off the road for a few months so i can get the arches and rust treated and various upgrades and mods.

I drive alot of motorway miles so something petrol or diesel that is good MPG.

Any suggestions or what do you drive? :)

The more pimp looking the better... This Wagon i was looking at...

I bought a Civic VEi for £700 off ebay. Love it to bits. Rare as rocking horse now tho. It's like a tame Prelude. Most of the everyday switches like indicators and headlights are the same. Does about 40-50 MPG, and for a 1.5 VTEC its quick if you rag the tits off it.

Just have to remember not to drive it like the Prelude. Both me and the mrs have spun it in the wet

Ive got one of these.

Image

1.9 JTD

Paid £900 for it.

No mechanical issues at all and just flew through MOT (now just ticked over 150k)

gets me 52mpg normal and 60mpg on motorway.

remap (£200) will see me with 75mpg, 130bhp and 210ftlb torque.

Insurance group 5 and tax is £110 a year.

She travels 600 miles a week and have never had a problem.

Still on the original clutch.

+1 for the Punto but I went for the 8v 1.2 petrol. Got it on a 52 plate with 100k miles for £900.

The 16v gives better economy and performance but the 8v is a safe engine (16v is interference engine) so of the timing belt failed there would be no damage, very handy since there was no service history or receipts with it.

I think I was getting about 45mpg on combined driving.

I have a 1999 Volvo V70 2.5 TDI 5 cylinders. It's massive for practicality, frugal and fully loaded. 4 speed auto, heated soft leather seats, cruise control, duel climate control and loads of rear leg room.
140 bhp getting an average of 40-44 mpg. A remap should see me getting 170 bhp and 46-50 mpg :D

Anyone thought of the Honda Jazz? I've been thinking of that as a first car for my girlfriend, but I haven't really looked in to them.

BE CAREFULL Jazz engines tend to blow big end bearings and are far over priced.
