Am i right in assuming that if people "hide online status" in their profile, that they won't appear on the bottom?

Done.
Visible in the footer on the home page and main forum page.
The database builds up over a the 24 hour period.
Hover over a name and it will tell you the time whe last active.

just done this, whats a google bot? does it just link to google search?

yep, sort of. It tells google all about the lovely stuff on the web.

so when you search for lovely stuff, google knows which websites contains the lovely stuff.
