New TV Recommendations?

Post by Gayno » Sun Dec 23, 2012 11:12 pm

So I'm looking at getting a new TV in the sales after xmas, just wondering what people have got/would recommend?

I'm looking at a 37" as our living room is tiny, we currently have a 32" which is about 5 years old now, so a little bigger. Anything more than 37" will look a bit over powering in the room.

Budget of around £400 max, although in the sales hopefully will get it cheaper than RRP is at the moment.

Is only for watching Freeview & Freesat (both HD), Blu Ray, streaming media via HTPC. Don't play games (don't have a console!!)

So, what's the thoughts?

Used to be a lot more involved with this stuff, but I have had plenty of experience with Panasonic and Samsung and they are both great TBH.
My folks just bought a 32" Samsung with plenty of toys 1080p freeview-HD etc, about £250 from my old work - richer sounds.

Richer Sounds is the site I'm currently looking at!

My current TV is a unbranded one, but uses the 32" Samsung panel and it's still going strong.

I have a 37" the difference between that and a 42" isn't that great, not in over taking a room

Way I see it, I spend a lot of time enjoying Films and TV so why not have it on a big screen.

Next time I'll go for a 42" but LED with built in freeview etc, my TV is a fair few years old now but it weighs a tonne, wouldn't like to wall mount it

Since buying a set of speakers from Richer Sounds in Brighton, I have not been anywhere else since for AV equipment. Their prices are the cheapest around and their customer service is by far the best I have ever received. When I was looking for a new TV a couple of years ago, I popped in and told one of the guys there that I had a budget of £800, he pointed out a few TV's for around that price, but advised me that the last LG5300 LED they had in stock was a much better TV than the ones I had been looking at and was only £700. First time ever I have given salesman my budget and been advised to spend £100 less because I would get more for my money.

I love my LG, have not had any issues with it at all. It is super slim, hardly weighs anything and being LED, the picture is really crisp and vivid. I believe that there is not much difference in quality between LG and Samsung, so either of the 2 would give similar quality.

Richer sounds have a much cheaper extended warranty than any other retailer that I found. Their 5 year super care is only 10% of the overall cost of the product that you are buying, compare that to somewhere like Curry's that offer 3 year care for about £130.

I took a set of speakers back in after I thought I blew one of them... I couldn't find the extended warranty that I needed to take in with me, but they didn't mind, and were happy with just my contact details. They couldn't find what the problem was and needed to send them back to Wharfdale in London, which meant I would be without speakers for a couple of weeks, which was a bummer as I had a party planned that weekend. After leaving, I was driving to work and got a phone call from them about 10 minutes after I left, the guy said that he had a chat with his manager and explained to him that I had a party that night. His manager told him to give me a ring and get me to pop back in after I finished work. They replaced my 18 month old speakers with a brand new set and said that they would take care of the old ones :o

I have only ever been into their Brighton branch, but if their other branches are like my local one, I would definitely recommend getting your TV from them. You know that if you have any problems, they will be more than happy to rectify any issues that you may have. They are also the only company I know that match any prices you can find, even if they are online.

This one looks quite promising... http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv- ... g-37ls570t

Also comes with a free 5 year guarantee and just in budget.

I had this dilemma a couple of years back and went for a Panasonic. Awesome quality TV.

Budget for some decent speakers though, even if only 2.1, as flat screens mean thin lifeless speakers.

We bought an LG TV last year.
Spanks any other TV we've owned
Wouldn't buy any other brand now
