wiring a screen so i can watch dvd in car. help??

Post by lewd lude lover » Wed Jan 02, 2013 3:36 pm

Hey guys, so i am fitting all the goodies i got for the missis into her horse van.

the issue i have is with the 7'' screen and the dvd player headunit.

How do i get the screen to play dvd and show the camera? at the moment its telling me it is blocked for my safety. i see everything working, the dvd begins to play then it goes blue.

so the only wire i have left on the screen is the one thats supposed to go to the reverse wire (i think?) its blue. Where do i put this to fool the screen into thinking its safe to show video???

Im thinking either positive or negative. I think positive as it would norm be fixed to the reverse light waiting for it to go on but some internet chatter says negative :o :?

any help appreciated as i really cant afford to learn by ''Phizzpop' electronics today.

It's not something silly like you can only view a DVD while stationary is it?

^ Yes

How do the ones in headrests work? Maybe try find something to do with that, although I imagine it's more complicated than it seems.

Ok so all i had to do was take the video feed from the rear out rather than the front.

it now thinks the screen is in the rear of the car. shitter its in the front of the van, lol..

cheers for your time guys. i think the blue wire would sort it but im not sure where. i tried it wired into live first with no result. its now loose again and i can watch dvd's while the missis drives us to shows. class....

oh, and she can watch her ponies with the camera in the back. lol...

Not sure if this is true but in one of the car that my friend had. He had to connect one wire to the handbrake cable. So everytime he had parked up, handbrake was on and that meant it was safe enough for you to put the DVD on. So he 'hot wired' the handbrake cable and he could watch it any where any time even at speed. :?

Edit: see you already worked it out ;)

It doesn't quite work like that, you have to normally wire the screen to the handbrake cable and it acts as a switch.

If you are going to bypass it and use a live or constant live, you need to wire in a "relay" so it sends a secondary on/off signal to the screen.

Looked at dong this to mine, but couldn't be arsed to sort it Boxing day (when i fitted the new HU) so just connected it to the handbrake cable and can only watch porn if driving with the handbrake on until i sort it another day.
