Obviously you'll be different, as you're getting your own ferry down, rather than from Dover with the rest of us, so you can plan your own trip ;)

I really want to drive Nurburgring in a convoy as the thought of driving on the wrong side of the road in a foreign country really scares me. Being in a convoy will make it much easier.

It works out much more expensive for me to drive to Dover, because of the mileage involved. 600 miles one way compared to 300. However the ferry takes over night, but driving to Dover and across the ferry or Chunnel will take a while. And not sure of I could be arsed to drive another 300 miles to the ring in the same day.

I dunno. I'll see how it pans out. A convoy to the ring would be totally awesome, and perhaps I can make my own way home a few days later?

Driving there in convoy is no problem.

It's driving around the actual Nurburngring that is banned.

The pavement or verge is on the driver's side. Easy!
You'll be surprised at how quickly you pick it up. Honestly. Don't worry about it.

Dat true.

Eight Beemers on the Ring don't look like they're in convoy. Neither will umpteen Ludes. We'll all be doing different speeds, so the odd bit of overtaking will show there's no collusion.
As to the banned cameras thing: it's to protect the licensed film-makers and photographers. Most people who film themselves get away with it by being discreet.
And the timing issue is intended to stop people trying too hard. Driving smoothly round the Ring from start to finish is fun. Driving very quickly to a place where you wait for the (mega-expensive) tow-truck isn't.

yeah thats true - no convoi or recording by cameras-in-hands is allowed,

but having a Go PRo or any other typical onboard camera INSIDE the car is unofficially allowed - we all had those :)

While entering the track last year, we had a very funny situation - as you see on that trailer movie, there were several oldie crappy preludes, one MR2 (old and rusty as well :D), two regular GT Mustags total OEM cars, and that one blue Shelby GT500 800whp built with all the new parts for around 80k GBP... and gues which one of them couldn't get in ?

Of course the most professionally built car, the Shelby

Why ?

Exhaust too loud. (our hondas produce noise only at vtec, that car did noise even on idles  )

He had those bonnet locks with steel lines... He had to unmnount them,

and he had no registry plate on the front so he ducktaped it :D

All our noisy hondas, with hi-flow exhausts and home-made mods, rust ^^ and onboard cameras had totally no problem.. i even had my windshield broken a bit, but i put some stickers on it and noone saw it :)

Coming back to time-measuring devices - there is no problem in having those UNTIL you crash or sb crashes beacuse of you. If so, you're in a legal jobby in germany as you're considered as "reckless driving" and "causing intended life danger to others" when they find it onboard... so my opinion : DO NOT USE IT... if you record a video it is enough to see it later how much time did it get for you to close a lap.

When i did my first lap last year, i was so scared so freaked out you cannot even imagine. Its such an adrenaline driving among the fastest cars on earth like lambos, ferraris, track M3's and porsche's.... I am serious with that - do drive for 50% of yours and your cars capabilities at the first lap... only when the emotions are down and you know what you're doing, feel the grip of your tires on that particular asphalt - then go faster and faster at every lap...

I could talk hours about it... if there will be some of you that have ANY (even stupid) questions about the track and riding it - PLZ DO ASK ME I am willing to help everyone with it :)

so why is it that clarkson on top gear was visibly timing the jag, and sabine scmidt was timing herself in the transit geting clean air following a viper.

They would have got a broadcasting permission bill. Plus Sabine is one of the top ring test drivers that most of the manufactures use. I think Mercedes use her full time.
