Potholes

Post by vanzep » Wed Jan 23, 2013 5:52 pm

Hit a pothole today - hit it so hard its flat spotted both downpipes and cracked one of the manifold primaries at the top  this was from a standing start away from a junction.
So i went back and took some photos and saw there was a fair amount of plastic trim bits and a few chunks of metal lying around - not from my car but from other cars who had hit the same pothole.
I informed Clarence (Highways agency) and have also asked for freedom of info on repairs/inspections carried out on this section of road by Edinburgh Council.
Needless to say i will need to get some quotes in for repair work or replacement parts as im seriously considering putting a claim in.
Has anyone else on here ever suffered pothole damage?
Makes me mad - the poor state of the roads in Edinburgh - its beyond a joke - i pay over £250 year in road tax and a further £100 a year for parking permit  nuff said :(

Put a claim in, they can only say no.

The other chunks of car around the area... tbh they can dispute that. You could've put it there, could've fallen from something, etc. Lots of weasely ways.

Nonetheless put a claim in.

I've had to replace front suspension or steering parts on at least 4 cars over the last 8 years. This is partly due to the track leading from our house to the road (shared with 4x4s with knobbly tyres), but local pot-holes are also major contributors.
Knowing where the main culprits are helps. It's easy to forget, though, when the hole's hidden under snow or somewhere in the middle of a puddle.
There really is no excuse for this. Britain has more roads per square mile than just about anywhere else, and it would be forgivable if some of the minor side roads were left to their own devices. But A and B roads deserve better. As you say, vanzep, we're paying for it.

As you said about the parking permit as well, I have a permit for my road, yet the edge is falling away and I literally have to crawl up the road. This is not just in my lowered car, work vans, other peoples cars, all the same. I live in a city centre ffs. The road out by my dads in the middle of nowhere has been resurfaced 3 times in the last 2 years, there are less than 20 houses on the whole 2 mile stretch. The main road that mine joins to is quite bad also, lots of dips and holes where the drains are... bloody double deckers going up and down it all day.

Def would put a claim in, I'm going to also not for pot hole but I put a set of rainsports 2 on my lude a few hundred miles ago, upon leaving my flat area my lude skidded a bit and hit the curb, would have prob only of scratched only my alloy if the curb had been ok but it was damaged and the corner was sharp resulting in it slicing the side wall of the tyre

complete pita but i know how you feel vanzep, a pothole took out two alloys last year a day before a visit to the pod, wasn't ammused to say the least :x .
my old boy put a claim in a few years ago and got what he was asking for but it did take a while for it to turn up so its probably worth a try, was it a stock mani and downpipe or aftermarket?

fair to say the pothole won

Iv been getting very annoyed with the Edinburgh roads too I have to take a side road onto my street cause the main turn has a huge pothole and raised manhole cover that is so bad it almost hits my sill when I go over it at a crawl
I hit the limiter in my h23 vtec still didn't kick in
