Be careful out there guyz. Airbags are a myth.

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

I'm sorry to hear that mate :( but yes I think you're right. The majority of accidents are probably low speed impacts, in which case the safety features in the car are probably very suited to minimising injuries, after all the Euro NCAP testing is at a simulated 30mph in an offset head on impact and that's the benchmark we all use. At high speed it's more down to luck it seems - my girlfriend lost a friend she went to uni with a couple of weeks ago, he lost control of his car on a country lane only a couple of miles from his house :( makes you think really, the amount of times we've probably all gone a little too fast down a familiar road, it's just not worth it

Kudos for stopping to help, not many people do in those situations. There are those that do without a second thought and he way i see it is if ever I keel over or something, it wil be nice if someone stopped to help me.

Times I have helped people I seem to find myself in another place where you ignore the sqeamish side and become very level headed, kind of a disaster response mode. I picked my lad up the other week and as he got in car I saw a 12 year kid come off his skate board and drokk his face on a low level wall. Cut his face/mouth up bad, lost teeth, lots of blood, he was in a bit of state. Got my cleaning cloths out the boot, put my coat round him as he went into shock as I tried to get some info out of him. Another bloke stopped and phoned for a paramedic and a nurse also stopped to help.

Looked bad though, I left my car in the road with the hazards on and was attending to kind on the pavement led down with blood on pouring out his face. Rush hour traffic and few people i know saw me and got texts asking if I had knocked him down.

My mate has been a reserve fireman since we left school and he has a great ability to help in bad situations, I guess years of being out on the body lemonade with him and helping with situations that often occur on a night out have rubbed off on me over the years.

I can vouch for the fact that Prelude airbags do work in a crash!

 Not good, I'm sorry to hear that mate.
People just do not realise the devastation it brings to a family. I'll never forget walking in to my aunt and uncles house (it was my cousin in law) the day it happened, 20 years ago , and just hearing screaming and wailing, real guttural primal instinct despair :(
Then her 5 and 3 year olds come up to me and the lad says 'My mums dead you know'.....obviously too young to really 'get it' if you know what I mean. How the hell do you react to that.
Sorry, didn't mean to get all morbid etc, but I do think if people that drive like pricks saw this stuff first hand, they just might think twice...
It's probably why I went off a bit at pushkis opion of heel-toe - I dont want to be tarred with that brush just because I enjoy driving, but sorry @pushki if my reaction was unexpected.

I was in a car accident on the M4 years back, mate driving had a blow out, we spun round a few times and ended up the wrong way round on he central reservation. It was like slow motion and I tried to talk him through controlling the skid whilst the girls on he back seat were screaming, but he lost it.

Coppers turned up and they were ace. One of them said thank drokk we were wearing belts as a few days before they had a similar situation but the car went on its roof. It was a hatch and the two girls flew out the back and they had to scrape them off the motorway. Kind of stuck with me.

Think how belts work, they lock and tighten on you as soon as they are under duress. They hold your body in place, so the chest trauma is caused by restraint, not impact. I'd fancy my chances of surviving a restraint injury rather than an impact injury to the face.

Do a bungee jump with a tight fitting harness and then do another with a loose one that results in impact and see which one your balls prefer.

good point shiny and in some cases a belt is a life saver.
as i said earlier a harness and a roll cage makes you feel invincible, harness pulled so tight you have a job to breath with the amount of adrenalin going through your body on the start line and a rollcage that surrounds you with steel bars that look unbreakable. its not the case and you can still be killed in an instant if the type of accident decides its your time. im a firm belieiver in karma and karma is never going to save my life unfortunately, but a full harness and a rollcage will keep my previous bad behaviour at bay until i have been such a kebab that karma decides otherwise i hope.

Apart from being totally in their own world, some people just cannot handle the trauma of witnessing
an accident. Cars are flying tons of metal. Always drive defensively guys, like you were sitting your advanced driving test. Fun is for driving on the track.

The car accident injuries I witnessed in a hospital spell, were unbelievable. Leg and spinal injuries big time. The rehabilitation and pain are monstrous. Then the disability and problems of arthritis change the life completely.

One guy in particular had built a Prelude. 16months work and a lotta cash. First run out a guy comes out of junction and mangles him. 2 legs broken in bits. 3yr recuperation and 6 ops. Frames on legs for 6months at a time. Plaster casts for months on end. Casts off ,more opps. Skin dead on legs, total muscle wastage, has to be seen to be believed, huge pain and even depression , and will NEVER be anywhere near the same guy.

Drive defensively guys..........do NOT attack the road.

NIce work, Donald.

Not easy though, I'm sure.

I suspect you may have been more help than you think to the guys in the cars.
