Smoked tail lights?

Post by Howzit37 » Mon Feb 06, 2012 10:42 pm

Yo, I drive a 98 5th Gen.

I am thinking about having my tail lights smoked. Nothing too dark really, just more of a tint than anything else. Is there a way of doing this myself or do I need to buy them that way?

Also, what are the legal implications of having them darker?

Thanks in advance for any answers guys.

Law wise they need to reflect light so can't be tinted too much

Fly eye stuff looks like it works, plus it's a sticker so if you get pulled you can peel it off rather than replacing the lights if you sprayed them (or attacking them with thinners)

Buy some tint spray, take your lights of and clean them good, rrub down thouroughy with a grey scotchbrite pad, wipe with damp cloth, let them dry. Then shake the can like a mad man for 3-4 mins. Spray, overlap the fan of the spray by half and keep it moving. Do 3 passes or 3 coats, It goes darker as it dries so dont think it dont look that dark, leave it for 5 mins. If you want it darker again repeat the process. It will cost you about £10.

Job done

Heres some I id earlier (this century)

They were not too dark and lit up nice, never had any hassle from the rozzas.

if you do them as dark as Dbo there is a chance you might get pulled as they need to reflect by law
as said though, just some tint spray and a light coating you should be fine
years back i did the same on my old punto and never hada problem

Thanks guys, think I might order some bits from FlyEyes.

Videos look pretty good.

Failing that, might try and spray them myself.

Will let you know how I get on.
