RX8 vs S2k debate

Post by simoncider » Sun Feb 10, 2013 9:30 am

I put this to the panel...

my "friend" has gone out looking for an RX8 to replace his Hyundai Coupe (yeah, i know), how do i persuade him that an S2k would be a much better bet?
I've already told him how awesome my lude is, but looks like he wants RWD. Maybe he should just get the mazda so that another S2k doesn't get wrapped round a tree..

Tell him all about rotary engines and how often they need re-building. A friend of mine bought an RX8, had an engine rebuild 5k miles before hand, he done 2k miles and BAM, engine went. That might of been pure jobby luck but imo, id rather an S2K ANYDAY!

I driven quite a few S2000's and LOADS of RX8's (around 60 different ones), theres honestly no competition....the S2000 is such a better car. The RX8 231bhp feels so slow and doesn't feel like anything 'special' plus its so ugly it makes children cry when you drive past and the fact they are unreliable.... I lost count if how many RX8'S I bought in the motor trade and I jumped into them and they don't start  And they are bad on fuel, it doesn't matter if you drive it slow or fast the MPG is Clubbing Eddy.

S2000 is quicker, handles better and the running and servicing costs are reasonable.

yeah even though they have improved the rotary engines the tips of the rotors are still a huge weakpoint there are so many rx's out there with engine conversions because of this hell i was looking at a blue rx8 the other day with a view to dropping a real engine in it.
Also the rotary engine is so thirsty i think i heard 8mpg being bandied about.

good point, don't think i have actually! hopefully he hasn't bought a mazda today and i'll take him out for a spin.

end of debate. ha!

all good though, cheers guys, i'd heard they were unreliable and used loads of fuel (and oil). i should have asked this question a few weeks ago when he first mentioned it, he could be buying one as we speak!

This. All tho you would spend more time looking at it broken on your driveway, rather than driving it.
