H22a running rich,
H22a running rich,
Hi all, ive got a '94 bb4 jdm prelude, today i took it for its mot after its been standing a while and it failed on the emmissions due to running rich, its just had an oil change, filter, fuel filter, new cambelt, manual tensioner conversion, air filter, its also got a custom made 4 branch manifold, and down pipe, i have also cleaned the egr valve out, although not the ports, can anyone point me to what it could be? Also between 2000-4000 rpm it bogs slightly, it seems that alot of h22's have this problem, but any advice would be fantastic! Many thanks!

Not sure about the running rich bit - could be o2 sensor - but the bogging seems to be a common problem with no single solution.
I finally solved mine 90% by swapping the TPS - you can check if it is that by unplugging it and driving the car. You will get a Engine Light come on if you do. If the car drives loads better then that could be the problem.
The other issue I had that finally solved the problem was HT Leads. I changed mine twice and it ran badly, first were blueprint leads second were from Euro Car Parts - can't remember the name.
I was never happy with them - they didn't seem to click over the plugs properly. Even after adjusting them.
Having tried the motor factor ones and found they were rubbish I had a look on Ebay . I spoke to a guy selling some on ebay locally to me and he assured me if I wasn't happy he would refund me. It was these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8MM-RED-SILIC ... 5d3918fa2c
Fitted them and they clicked on properly and firmly and the difference was like night and day. Runs perfectly now.
Even sounds better (a LOT better
)
And no - I honestly don't know the seller
I have also cleaned out the EGR system, cleaned and refitted or changed most sensors around the engine done valve clearances etc etc. It all seems to add up a bit at a time to a car that runs great now. The biggest difference was 100% the TPS followed by the leads. I came to the conclusion the TPS was reading right on the multimeter when checked manually but during operation had a worn part that was giving dodgy readings.
