Post by bb4life » Tue Feb 19, 2013 7:52 pm

Check the linkages at the gearbox end are attached ok, then have a look under the gaiter to check everything's in order there too.

If it selects all the other gears ok at standstill them it's most likely the 5th/reverse synchro hub sleeve that's got damage. The teeth burr over and prevent the sleeve from sliding across the hub

the car seems to have been well looked after, if it is the synchro hub sleeve thats damaged ill try and find a lsd box for it

Simple thing first... With the car stationary, select 1st, then reverse. If not try 1st, neutral, lift and dip the clutch several times, then reverse.

Is the clutch biting point low to the floor?

Does it go in easy with the engine off?

Since it's a non-LSD box I would consider buying a new gearbox rather than rebuiliding your existing one. For example I got a whole M2P4 for £50 :D That way it's a straight swap with less time off the road.
