u2q7 box swap into h22a bb4

hi guys, ive got to have the box out of the lude, ive been offered a u2q7 with lsd, out of an accord, i just wondered if they are an easy swap?, any downsides? or is it better to try and find a m2b4?, thanks fred

I also have a U2Q7 in my 4g.

It is an easy swap as swaps go, but the vehicle speed sensor is different. There's an easy way to make it work that means your power steering will be heavier during low speed turning. Or the hard way where it will be exactly the same.

Another down side is it's a close ratio box, and if you run standard sized wheels, in 5th at 70MPH you'll be at around 4K RPM. The upshot of that is your 0-60 will most likely be quicker. There's also the LSD which is just awesome at controlling understeer and for pulling out of turns fast.

Yeah, you cant use the Prelude VSS which means the p/s lines have to be looped back on the rack. So you loose the speed sensitive p/s. Its has the same weight as it would have done when you were travelling at speed, but all the time. You get used to it. ;) The PS pump used to groan a bit coz its works harder when parking, but if you take it easy it never complains. I hardly notice it now anymore.

The LSD is good and it is a closer ratio box. I dont do motorway miles in it anymore so not a problem. Acceleration is better in any gear.

It's the best box for H22 to my mind. I have it and I suggest fixing the VSS at least.
I repressed gears from one to another VSS and steering is the same as it was before. If you do this, be careful, it's ease to break that center shaft when pressing. I also put in longer 5th gear.

Now I really agree with the opinion, that it's better to pick the right gearbox (for me: short 1-4 gears + LSD), than put that amount of money to the engine (I am talking about NA engine). Engine can wait a little bit :)

4K = about 80 mph with the M2P4 on 215/45/17's which is a stock size for 5th gens. I think Judderod is on about using smaller wheels with it ;)

^ Spot on. I'm running 205/50/15's which is standard for a 4th.

The acceleration is bonkers but it's pretty useless on the motorway. I don't use first very much at all, except if I want my face ripped off.

I think the author would agree :) There are many gearbox ratio calculators online, but this one is the best for me. Very very useful and informative, easy to create, change, compare, modify. Thanks for it again !

I had M2V5 in BB1. Didn't like it :) Sometimes I even had problems hitting 2ng gear in VTEC zone :)
So I chose U2Q7 + synchrotech carbon synchros + 4,64 FD + 5th 0.735. Take Honda gearbox ratios chart and examine, witch ratios you want. That's how I found out the longer and cheap 5th gear. Mine was from Accord 91 2,0 box, i guess... Bought it for the price of metal. To sum all expenses, such build is realy expensive, but if possible - go for it, you won't regret :) Check the redline of 2nd (111,62) and 3rd (128,66) gears, quite close :) Heres the comparative chart:
Left - M2V5, right - my built box
R17 215/40
VTEC - 5000 rpm
Redline - 8000 rpm
It's km/h, not mph ;)

Man it is good :) For me it is the perfect box for H22, witch can be made from OEM and after market parts, not custom :) Didn't have much opportunities to enjoy it last season, because I made it only in the end of summer, but can't wait for this season to start :)
