Sounds awfully like a lower pulley failure. If it was slightly loose before it may explain the noises too. Worth having a look and tightening it all back up? Could be as simple as that?

He posted a vid somewhere on the forum while the car was making a racket. In the vid the crank pulley seemed to be fine, no wobbles. But that was before this happened.

No, it's still intact; drive belts are all still on. But the lower pulley is wobbling & the power steering has stopped working. And the loud bang bang noise! :guns:

when it was just the noise the pulley did have a off centre slight wobble to it.
but when you rested your hand on the rocker cover above cylinders 1&2 you could feel them being struck from underneath ;)

i would say if we stripped it now to look the 2 beltside bottom end shells would be lose. feels like the sheel bolts have worked their way out and are striking as the cam is turning

this i think has elonggated the cam nose and has now probally destroyed the woodruf key and the pulley has now streached the belt so the power steering is just slipping :(

don't think just doing it up will fix as god knows what metal warf is now floating around the block ;)

That wasn't the same one I saw the other day. Yeah the pulley is wobbling more in that vid.
